Nabji Korphu Winter Trek
The Nabji Korphu trek is an ideal post-harvest/winter trekking open from October up to the end of March and duration of five nights and six days. The trail is set out in Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, a park with an ecological rich environment. The trek starts from Riotala (1060m) and final destination Tongtongphey (1061m). It is very possible to see the Golden Langur (Trachypithecus geei), the rarest primates, which can only be found in Bhutan and also home to the endangered Rufous-necked Hornbill (Aceros nepalensis) and also a superb place for birding and has a wide variety of plants and flowers. The last two days of the trek will go through the homeland of the Monpa people, small traditional village community which are scattered on the slope overlooking Mangde Chhu. Monpas are thought to be the first settlers in Bhutan and Mangde Chhu valley representing one of the earliest areas of settlement in Bhutan.
Detailed Itinerary:
Day 01: International arrival and drive to capital city, Thimphu
From the flight in, weaving through the valley, transfer to Thimphu Valley, where treasures that awaits are to be much anticipated. Upon arrival in Thimphu will enjoyed Bhutanese delicious lunch, then will visit Memorial Chorten and will have some ‘Kora’ and to Textile Museum, Folk Heritage Museum, painting school and Zilukha Nunnery. Day 02: Transfer from Thimphu to Trongsa.
An early departure for a dramatic drive over the high mountain pass of Dochu La, sights on the way include one of Bhutan’s first fortress, the 17th century Simtokha Dzong. The journey continues over the 3,050m mountain pass where on a clear day, towering Himalayan peaks are clearly visible. The descent down thru the Wangduephodrang along the Kingdom’s only east-west highway and stop while for lunch at Wangduephodrang. Further continues on through the scenic village of Wangduephodrang and carrying on the highway follows the scenic Dang Chhu before climbing thru forests of bamboo and oak, and just before crossing the Pele La (3,400m) pass, a small side road splinters off to the hidden Phobjika Valley. Drive across the Pelela Pass through the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, which divide western and central Bhutan. Cross the Nikka Chu Bridge to enter the heavily cultivated Trongsa regions in central Bhutan. Beside the stream, is the great white stupa, the Chendebji Chorten built in 19th century in Nepalese design, stands below the road as testimony to the subjugation of a demon by the Lam Shida. Stop for tea break and further proceed towards Trongsa (2,200m), the ancestral home of the Royal Family of Bhutan. (Overnight: Hotel at Trongsa)
Day 03: Trongsa – Nimshong (trek starts) (Distance: 7kms, Duration: 3-4 hours trek)
Morning, visit Trongsa Dzong till courtyard and the drive to Ritola (1060m), trek start point, where we have little religious ceremony for seeking the guidance for local deities for good start and ending. On the way, can see Deers, Macaques, stupas and will come across the tiny villages. (overnight: Camp at Nimshong village, 1,319 meters above sea level)
Day 05: Nimshong – Nabji (Distance: 13kms, Duration: 5-6 hours trek)
Morning, visit local monastery for to pray and then, will through broadleaf forest, with possible see Golden Langur and Rufous-necked Hornbill and will come across terraced fields of rice and the Monastery of Nabji, which means ‘oath’ harbors the stone pillar to mark the peace between Bumthang and Assam Kings. In the village you can find rock remains of a blacksmith (one of the reincarnations of Pema Lingpa). Today’s’ campsite will be middle of rice fields. Day 06: Halt at Nabji.
Today, will day hike to Korphu village (1636m), which will be about 4hours hike and at reaching Korphu, firstly, visit Korphu Monastery, mostly inside are sacred relics of Pema Lingpa. Then visit to village and houses, which is really will be experiencing the true lifespan of farmer in Bhutan and return to our campsite and leisure. Day 07: Nabji – Kubdra (Distance: 15kms, Duration: 5-6 hours trek)
Today will trek though the dense forest, big tree with clippers, small bamboos and will meet with some wild Orchids. Reaching Kubdra village, Monpa, people in this village community will be very pleased us and they will warmly welcome us to our campsite. (overnight: Camp at Kubdra, 1,636 meters above sea level)
Day 08 Kubdra – Jangbi village
Today will be very auspicious day for all of us, since we are getting opportunity to get visit to one of hidden Ney (sacred place) of Guru Rimpoche, here will find the foot print, dragger and Hat of Guru Rinphoche in the Monastery and we Buddhist believe that Guru Rinpoche is second lord Buddha of this universe. Also we will experience the Monpa People and their Cane and Bamboo works. (overnight: Camp at Jangbi, 1,368 meters above sea level)
Day 09: Jangbi – Tongtongfey-Trongsa (Distance: 10kms; Duration: 3-4hours trek)
Today is the last of Nabji Korphu trek. Reaching Tongtonfey ends our trek and will met the other representative of The Bhutan Travel, who are waiting for your reception. After having refreshment drive toward Trongsa, on the way, if time permits will visit the Kuenga Rabten Royal Palace. (overnight: Hotel in Trongsa)
Day 10: Transfer from Trongsa to Thimphu
Today is reversed journey to capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu and will stop at Wangduephodrang for lunch. After lunch, drive to olden capital place, Punakha valley and visit the Punakha Dzong and on way back, visit to Chimi Lhakhang, the auspicious fertility monastery built in 1499. Then our next stop will be at Dochula for tea break. Further downhill drive reaches capital city, Thimphu and check in to hotel. Dinner will be served with Bhutanese cultural programme. Day 11: Transfer from Thimphu to Paro via Haa Valley.
This valley was recently opened to visitors and remains one of Bhutan’s most pristine regions. At the Chuzom confluence, the road ascends the dramatic Wang Chu valley where there is time to view the Dobji Dzong and, if time permits, hike around its high ramparts. The road into Haa winds up through quaint villages and thick conifer forests before leading into a valley carpeted with fields of millet, barley, potato and wheat. The patchwork fields are dotted with farmhouses all adorned with intricately painted cornices and door and window frames. Visits to both Chhundu Lhakhang and Lhakhang Karpo provide an insight into the history of the valley. There are arrangements to see the Wangchulo Dzong as well. The winding road then ascends through pastureland past grazing yaks, before reaching the 3,900m Cheli La pass. Descending into the Paro Valley, the scenery transforms from sub-Alpine pasture brilliant with wild mountain flowers, to lush forests of blue pine, cypress, larch, fir and rhododendron. Jhomolhari Trek
This trek is hard and demanding one, however it is truly rewarding and worth doing it and it is 12 days and 11 nights of duration. The trek will take you to the beautiful landscapes of Bhutan, unique and traditionally rich villages, passing through the nomadic yak herder’s campsites, the fantastic views of the Himalayan Mountains, memorable camping at the base of mountain Jhomolhari (the goddess of mountains). It attains a maximum altitude of 4890m above sea level. The trek starts from Drukgyel Dzong (Paro) and ends at Thimphu. Some trekkers, trek till base camp and retun to Drukgyel Dzong via same route and the best to do this trek are March till May and September till November.

Day 01 International arrival & explore Paro valley
The flight into Paro on our national carrier, Druk Air, (KB) is a befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of our country. In clear weather, magnificent views of the world’s highest peaks, give way to the lush green Paro valley as you land. Your Bhutanese escort from The Bhutan Travel will greet you on arrival, and then drive you the short distance to the Paro town for refreshment. After all, we will visit the National Museum, housed in the Ta Dzong (watchtower). Here, an intriguing collection of artifacts provide a wonderful introduction to the rich culture and heritage of the Kingdom. Just a short walk downhill lays the dominating Paro Dzong, a fine example of Bhutanese historic architecture. From the Dzong, the tour crosses Nyamai Zampa, a traditional cantilever bridge, and guests are then driven to the town temple, built in 1525, to view ancient wall paintings. Day 02. Excursion to Paro Taktsang monastery
Today, we will hike up to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery, it is 2½hour hiking distance from the road end. The trail climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss, and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. We stop for a rest and light refreshments at the Taktsang Jakhang (cafeteria) and then, continue our journey to the temple, which was built in 1600s, this incredible monastery clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff that plunges 900 m into the valley below. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, landed here on the back of a flying tigress. Lunch will be served at the cafeteria. On our way back we will visit Kyichu Lhakhang, It is one of the two most sacred and the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in 7th century by Tibetan king Songtsen Gempo. Day 03: Paro – Shana (trek start) (Distance: 14kms, Duration: 5-6hours Trek)
After having breakfast, checking out from Hotel and drive to starting point and there, we will have little religious ceremonies for good fortune and to get blessing from local deities to have very successful trip. The trek to Shana starts from Drukgyal Dzong following the Paro River gently and we pass through the cultivated fields and tiny picturesque villages. The forests are alive with numerous birds and brightly colored butterflies. (overnight: Camp at Shana, 2,820 meters above sea level)
Day 04: Shana – Thangthangka (Distance: 21kms, Duration: 7-8 hours trek)
The trail follows the river through a heavily forested area with a few isolated farmhouses. It narrows and closes in and the trail winds up and down along the drainage. We pass a junction en-route, where another path leads north over the Tremo La to Tibet. Camp is in a meadow with a stone shelter. (overnight: Camp at Thangthagka, 3610 meters above sea level).
Day 05: Thangthangka – Jangothang (Distance: 15kms, Duration: 5-6 hours trek)
We will continue the Pa Chhu River and after passing a small army post, the trail slowly leaves the forest line and gradually climbs into a beautiful valley, passing Tegethang, a winter home of yak herdsmen. Lunch will be served in one of these huts. Lots of yaks will be seen today before we arrive at the Jhomolhari base camp (4,115 m). High mountains overlook the camp and visible nearby are the ruins of an old fortress used to guard Bhutan against Tibetan invasions. (overnight: Camp at Jangothang, 4,115 meters above sea level).
Day 06: Jangothang (Halt)
Today is a rest day, a chance to acclimatize and walk up to the Jhomolhari glacier or to the lakes in the opposite direction. (overnight: Camp at Jangothang, 4,115 meters above sea level).
Day 07: Jangothang – Lingshi (Distance: 15kms, Duration: 6-7 hours trek)
Today will be the finest day for trek with great views of the Mountain Jhomolhari, Jichu Drake and the Tserim Gang, start climbing straight away and after 3 to 4 hours reaches the Nyelela pass (4,700m). After this pass, we descend to a circular hut just below Lingshi, where we camp. Coming down from Lingshi we obtain our first views of the truly mystical Dzong atop a high hill. Day 08: Lingshi – Shodu (Distance: 20kms, Duration: 6-7 hours trek)
The trail ascends up to the Yalila pass (4,820-m), from here will view Mountain Jhomolhari, Jichu Drake, Tserim Gang and Khangbum can be seen on a clear day. After the pass we descend to Shodu. Today is a fairly long day. (overnight: Camp at Shodu, 3,963 meters above sea level)
Day 09: Shodu – Barshong (Distance 20kms, Duration: 6 – 7 hours trek)
We will follow the Thimphu chhu through a forest of rhododendrons and waterfalls, the river then narrows and closes in and the trail winds along the drainage, ascending up to the ruins of the Barshong Dzong, where we set our camp. (overnight: Camp at Barshong, 3,610 meters above sea level)
Day 10: Barshong – Dodina (trek ends) (Distance 25kms, Duration: 8 – 9 hours trek)
Today, will be long day, we descend down along the Thimphu Chu crossing forests of rhododendrons and green meadows. Our trail follows the river until we emerge at Dodina, where The Bhutan Travel’s representative will be waiting for our reception and then drive to Capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu. Day 11: Transfer from Thimphu to Paro
The day begins with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten built in honour of our late third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk and the Dupthop Lhakhang, one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan. We then drive to the view point of Tashichho Dzong, seat of the national government and summer residence of the Central Monastic Body, including Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan) and visit to National Library House, Folk Heritage museum and Painting School, where traditional art is still kept alive through instructions in the art of painting Thangkas (sacred Buddhist religious scrolls). Stop for lunch, and there after visit to Bhutanese Paper factory, weaving center, textile museums and then to Handicrafts Emporium and shopping for souvenirs in the shops of Thimphu. Gangtey Trek
The Gangtay trek is one of the easiest and finest low elevations trek in Bhutan. It starts from Phobjikha Valley at 300m and ends in Tiki Zampa (Wangduephodrang), which cover visiting several remote villages. The Phobjikha valley is a glacial valley and is the winter home of the black necked cranes. This valley is a designated for conservation area and borders Black Mountain National Park. The valley is one of the beautiful valleys in Bhutan. On the way, will be visiting the villages of Gogona and Khotoka through the fields and forests of juniper, magnolia and rhododendron. It is 2 nights and 3 days trek. It is especially beautiful in April and May, however, the best month are March till June and September till November.

Day 02: Explore Thimphu valley (capital city of Bhutan)
After breakfast, drive to Sangaygany, BBS tower affords magnificent views across the Thimphu Valley and on the way visit Mothithang Mini-Zoo, to see the Takin, the National animal of Bhutan and then will hike to Wangditshe, (1hr. 30minutes) and hike ends at Dechenphodrang Monastery, then drive toward Drupthop Lhakhang, a nunnery. Luch at hotel at local restaurant, after lunch visit Folk Heritage Mesuem, Painting School, National Library and then drive Weaving Center, Changzamtog. On the way to Weaving Center, visit to Bhutanese Handmade Paper factory. During evening time, visit Handicraft Emporium and Textile Museum and further stroll around the Thimphu town. If our guests have sufficient time, perhaps we will visit Thimphu Fortress, which is today used as offices for National government and summer residence of Central Monastic body including, Je Khenpo, (chief abbot). Day 03: Thimphu – Gangtay (Phobjikha)
Today we will drive to Gangtay (Phobjikha valley) on reaching Dochula (3,100m), an pass located between Thimphu and Punakha, If the weather is clear, can see in the distant, the beautiful eastern Himalayan Mountain ranges bordering in the north. Also, it is home to many species of wild Rhododendrons and other species of flowers. Here are 108 stupas were recently built by their majesties Queens of Bhutan, which really beautified the pass. After having done the circumambulation stupas, further our journey to Gangtey will be continue. We will stop lunch at Wangduephodrang and after having lunch visit to Wangduephodrang Fortress and Radak Naktshang, the village temple. Carrying on the highway follows the scenic Dang Chhu before climbing thru forests of bamboo and oak, and just before crossing the Pele La pass, a small side road splinters off to the hidden Phobjika Valley.
Day 04: Phobjikha to Gogona (trek starts) (Distance: 15kms, Duration: 6-7 hours trek)
Today, after having early break fast we will visit to Gangtey Gonpa Monastery to have blessings and will lit the butter lamp, drink the holy water from altar and will pray for good luck and guidance from local deities for to have successful trip. Then drive to start and will start trek. The trek leaves the valley at 2830km and leads south, then west through meadows and fields. It then climbs through a mixed forest of juniper, bamboo, rhododendrons and magnolia. The trail is rough and rocky and weaves through trees where pack animals have created deep muddy furrows. After crossing Tsele La (3440m) the trail crosses several meadows, and then descends through forests to Gangak (3020m). It is then a short climb to the camp at Gogona (3100m), a beautiful hilltop site overlooking a long valley. Nearby is Gogona Lhakhang and dozens of poles with white prayer flags fluttering. A 30-minute walk beyond Gogona is a hamlet where you may find homemade arra to buy. The women here weave blankets and speak a different dialect called Bjop-kha (language of the nomads). Day 05: Gogona to Khothangkha (Distance: 16kms, Duration: 6-7 hours trek)
The trail winds gently up above Gogona village, past flocks of sheep and ploughed fields. Climb into a forest of firs, oak, spruce, dwarf rhododendron, miniature azaleas, cypress and juniper. A large area of this forest was burned by a fire, which was probably caused by lightning. Much of the undergrowth is daphne, the plant that is used for hand-made paper and may be identified by its yellow flowers. Further gradual climbs leads to Shobju La (3,410m). The trail down from the past is rocky and muddy, weaving through the forest and criss- crossing a small stream. Above the trail, a small coal mine and the camp used by the minors. Eventually, at about 3,000m, the trail needs a rough trek used by tractors to collect wood from the forest. Follow the road, with a few short cuts through the woods, to sawmill and woodcutters’ camp at Dolonaga (2,830m). Still heading down, the trail over looks the boat Khothangkha valley eventually which is a clearing, Chorten Karpo, where there are four Chortens dedicated to the four Je-Khenpo, who came from this area. Three of the Chortens are square, in Bhutanese style, and the fourth is Nepali style. The best camp is in this clearing at 2,790m, beside a forest of a large blue pines over looking the valley and the village of Khothangkha, comprising about 60 rustic houses.
Day 06: Khothangkha to Tikke Zampa (trek ends) (Distance: 12kms, Duration: 5 hours trek)
A short, steep climb along a well-known path takes you to Tashi La (2,800m). This is the upper terminus of the cable car that transports wood down to Chhuzomsa, 1,300m below. If you send a message ahead, you can ride the cable car down, but note that, ‘The Passenger who travels by Tashi La rope way will be at own risks’. Further step down through a beautiful forest, with the undergrowth changing from rhododendrons and magnolia to ferns and dwarf bamboo. Experts claim that this stretch of trail is one of the finest bird-watching areas in Bhutan. Among the species found here are laughing thrush, shrike, magpie and woodpecker. The trail plunges down past steep terraced wheat fields to a cluster of houses at Whachay. The trail eventually meets the road near Tikke Zampa, 1,500m. Keep your ears open for the whistle of loggers above you, which are to warn you to watch for the huge logs that they are sliding down the hillside. Drive to Punkha (overnight: Hotel in Punkha)
Day 07: Reversed Journey to Paro valley.
Today will be reversed journey to Paro valley, which is lengthy drive, but the treasures that wait are to be much anticipated. After breakfast, visit to impressive Punakha Dzong, the winter residence of the monastic order’s head, with numerous alter rooms and grand courtyards to be explored and then will start our journey back to Paro. On the way, visit Chimi Lhakhang, the auspicious fertility monastery built in 1499. Further drive will reach Dochula, stop for lunch and rest for while and will continue to journey to Paro valley.

Bumthang Cultural Trek
Bumthang is located center part of Bhutan and one of the most attractive destinations for foreign guests. Also, many monasteries and Neys (sacred places) are situated here in this valley. This trek can be graded as easy trek and it is best for the beginners. The trek crosses several villages providing an excellent opportunity to interact with the rural life of Bhutan. In this trek will make our night halt in the farmer’s house instead of tent and it is only two nights and three days. The best months to do this trek are April till June and September till November.

Today will drive on to Jakar, Bumthang valley across the Yotong Laa Pass (3,425m). En-route, stop at Zungney (2,750m) to see the traditional weavings of Yathra, the woolen fabric in numerous colors and patterns. Continue overland to Bumthang (2,800m) for lunch, the most spectacular valleys in Bhutan and also the heartland of Buddhism. Here the great teachers meditated and left in there wake many sacred grounds. The Guru and his lineage of Tertons, the treasure finders, have laid to the sprouting of many temples in the valley. Afternoon, visit some sacred monasteries like Jampay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang, Jakar Dzong and Lodra Kharchu Monastery. (overnight: Hotel in Bumthang)
Day 04: Bumthang – Nganglhakhang (trek start) (Distance: 14kms, Duration: 3hours trek)

Day 06: Ugyencholing – Jakar/Bumthang (trek ends)
Today morning, visit Ugyenchholing museum and Mebar Tsho, (The Burning Lake), then day excursion to Ura valley. (overnight: Hotel in Bumthang)
Day 07: Transfer from Bumthang to Punakha valley
Right after breakfast, will start reversed journey from Bumthang to Punakha and will stop lunch at Trongsa. After having lunch, visit to Ta Dzong (watch tower) which is now days used as museum and further will continue journey toward Punakha. (overnight: Hotel in Punakha)
Day 08: Transfer from Punakha to Paro valley
Today is our last journey in The Land of Thunder Dragon. After breakfast, visit to impressive Punakha Dzong, the winter residence of the monastic order’s head, with numerous alter rooms and grand courtyards to be explored and then will start our journey back to Paro. On the way, visit Chimi Lhakhang, the auspicious fertility monastery built in 1499. Further drive will reach capital town, Thimphu for lunch. Beautiful Laya Gasa Trek
The beautiful Laya Gasa Trek is fifteen days and fourteen nights strenuous trek, which leads through high mountains (16,100 ft) into the wilderness above the tree line, a world of snow peaks, glacial lakes, herds of blue sheep, alpine blossoms and home of the hospitable Layaps (Northern Bhutanese Nomadic). The route also takes you through the therapeutic hot springs of Gasa and ends in the sub-tropical valley of Punakha. The best months for this trek are April till June and then September till November.

Day 01: International arrival & explore Paro valley.
The flight into Paro on our national carrier, Druk Air, (KB) is a befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of our country. In clear weather, magnificent views of the world’s highest peaks, give way to the lush green Paro valley as you land. Your Bhutanese escort from The Bhutan Travel will greet you on arrival, and then drive you the short distance to the Paro town for refreshment. After all, we will visit the National Museum, housed in the Ta Dzong (watchtower). Here, an intriguing collection of artifacts provide a wonderful introduction to the rich culture and heritage of the Kingdom. Just a short walk downhill lays the dominating Paro Dzong, a fine example of Bhutanese historic architecture. From the Dzong, the tour crosses Nyamai Zampa, a traditional cantilever bridge, and guests are then driven to the town temple, built in 1525, to view ancient wall paintings. Day 02: Day Excursion to Taktsang Monastery
Today we will hike up to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery. We have to walk about 2½ hours from the road end. The trail climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss, and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. We stop for a rest and light refreshments at the Taktsang Jakhang (cafeteria) and then we continue our journey to the temple. Built in the 1600s, this incredible monastery clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff that plunges 900 m into the valley below. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, landed here on the back of a flying tigress. Lunch will be served at the cafeteria. On our way back we will visit Kyichu Lhakhang, It is one of the two most sacred and the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in 7th century by Tibetan king Songtsen Gempo. (overnight: Hotel in Paro)
Day 03: Paro – Shana (trek start) (Distance: 14kms, Duration: 05-06 hours trek)
After breakfast, drive to trek starting point and there, we will have little religious ceremonies for good fortune and to get blessing from local deities to have very successful trip. The trek start from Drukgyal Dzong to Shana following the Paro River gently and we pass through the cultivated fields and tiny picturesque villages. The forests are alive with numerous birds and brightly colored butterflies. (overnight: Camp at Shana, 2,828 meter above sea level)
Day 04: Shana – Thangthangka (Distance: 21kms, Duration: 07-08 hours trek)
Perhaps, today will be lengthy journey, which the trail follows the river through a heavily forested area with a few isolated farmhouses. It is of narrows and closes in and the trail winds up and down along the drainage. We pass a junction en-route, where another path leads north over the Tremo La to Tibet. Today our camp is in a meadow with a stone shelter. (overnight: Camp at Thangthangka, 3,610 meter above sea level)
Day 05: Thangthangka – Jangothang (Distance: 15kms, Duration: 5-6 hours trek)
We will continue to follow the Pa Chhu River and after passing a small army post, the trail slowly left the forest line and gradually climbs into a beautiful valley, passing Tegethang, a winter home of yak herdsmen. Lunch will be served in one of those huts. Perhaps, a lot of yaks will be seen today before we arrive at the Jhomolhari base camp (4,115meter above sea level). High mountains overlook the camp and visible nearby are the ruins of an old fortress used to guard Bhutan against Tibetan invasions. (overnight: Camp in Jangothang, 4,115 meter above sea level)
Day 06: Jangothang (Halt)
Today, we will rest full day and a chance to acclimatize and walk up to the Jhomolhari glacier or to the lakes in the opposite direction. (overnight: Camp in Jangothang, 4,115 meter above sea level)
Day 07: Jangothang – Lingshi (Distance: 19kms, Duration: 6 – 7 hours trek)
Of course, our day will be our fresh for us to continue the trek with great views of the Mountain Jhomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tserim Gang. After climbing three hours straight away will reach Nyele-La (4,700m) and after the pass, we descend to a circular hut just below Lingshi, where will our camp for to-night. Further coming down from Lingshi will obtain our first views of the truly mystical Dzong atop a high hill. (overnight: Camp at Lingshi, 4,150 meter above sea level)
Day 08: Lingshi – Chebisa (Distance: 12kms, Duration: 4 – 5 hours trek)
This is a magical day, leaving Lingshi behind we gently climb gently to reach another delightful village, Gom Yu, which is set right below a 300 m cliff. An hour walk brings us to a lovely little valley with a huge waterfall at one end of the Shangri La village of Chebisa, where we camp by the side of the river. The walk is very leisurely with plenty of reasons and opportunities to linger. (overnight: Camp at Chebisa, 3,780 meter above sea level)
Day 10: Chebisa – Shomuthang (Distance: 17kms, Duration: 6 – 7 hours trek)
Today will be quite a stiff climb through high pastures up the Gokula pass (4,320 m) before we drop through forests of dwarf rhododendron. We climb gradually and head down to the camp near a riverbed. (overnight: Camp at Shomuthang, 3,890 meter above sea level)
Day 11: Shomuthang – Robluthang (Distance: 22kms, Duration: 7 – 8 hours trek)
A long haul over the Jarela pass at 4,640 m where we once again get stunning views of the Himalayan Mountains above us. We drop steeply down a forest trail to the Tsarigathang valley, where herds of Takin roam, then cross a knee deep river before climbing up Robluthang where we camp. (overnight: Camp in Robluthang, 4,100 meter above sea level)
Day 12: Robluthang – Lemithang (Distance:16kms, Duration: 6 – 7 hours trek)
Perhaps, today will be the hardest days of the trek, since we need to climb slowly up to Shinchela pass at 4,870 m. and are rewarded with stunning views of mountains, including the spectacular Gang Chen Ta at the head of the valley. On a clear day practically all the mountains on the northern border are visible. Eagles, griffin vultures, blue sheep and yaks abound in this area. We descend down to camp on a lovely spot by the riverbank. (overnight: Camp at Lemithang, 4,040 meter above sea level)
Day 13: Lemithang – Laya (Distance: 10kms, Duration: 4 – 5 hours trek)
Today, we will walk along the river, one of the tributaries of the Mochu and through a forest of rhododendron and silver fir and then enter the village of Laya. The people of Laya are famous for they’re vertical stripe yak hair clothing and their strange conical bamboo hats. The women wear their hair long and with great deal of turquoise and jade jewelry. The features of the people are even more Tibetan/ Mongolian than the Bhutanese, who live in the central valleys. The rest of the day is spent at leisure or visiting village houses and mixing with the villagers and we can view Mountain Masagang and the other Himalayan peaks. Day 14: Laya (Halt)
We have a rest day at Laya and an opportunity to meet the local people (Layapas), basically they are nomadic.
Day 15: Laya – Koena (Distance: 19kms, Duration: 6 – 7 hours trek)
Today our trail winds along the river valley offers breathtaking views of the crashing river, feeder streams and waterfalls. (overnight: Camp at Koena, 3,300 meter above sea level)
Day 16: Koena – Gasa Tsachu (Distance: 15 kms, Duration: 6 – 7 hours trek)
We gradually climb up passing Bale-La pass (3,740m) and then descend to Gasa village. The first sight of the Gasa Dzong perched on the hillside over the village is one of the sights of the trip. We then drop steeply down to the river for an hour and camp near the Hot Spring – a chance for a good hot bath. (overnight: Camp at Tsachu area, 2,638 meter above sea level)
Day 17: Gasa Tsachu – Goen Damji (Distance: 21kms, Duration: 7 – 8 hours trek)
Today is another lengthy trail winds through rolling hillsides with the vista of fields, villages and forests of oak and pine. Gasa Dzong will be visible behind you glued to the valley wall, seeming afloat in space. And still overnight will be in camp, of course it is the last night to sleep in camp. (overnight: Camp at Goen Damji, 2,280 meter above sea level)
Day 18: Goen Damji – Punakha (trek ends)
The trail descends from the high agricultural benches above the Mochu into a lush semi-tropical gorge filled with banana trees, creepers and the sight of an occasional monkey. (overnight: Hotel in Punakha)
Day 19: Transfer from Punakha – Thimphu
In the morning visit the Punakha Dzong, the ancient capital of Bhutan built in 1637 and today, it serve as district administrative offices and winter residence for Central Monastic Body. On the way to capital city, visit Chimi Lhakhang, the auspicious fertility monastery built in 1499. Before reaching Capital city, stop at Dochula pass for tea break, where you will meet with 108 Druk Wangyel Stupas built by their majestic Queens of Bhutan, which really beautified the passes and if weather are clear, you can view the panoramic view of eastern Himalayan ranges. Further drive down will reach to Simtokha, where you will see the oldest Dzong, Simtokha Dzong built in 1629. Transfer to Hotel and dinner with Bhutanese cultural show. (overnight: Hotel in Thimphu)
Day 20: Transfer from Thimphu – Paro
The day begins with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten built in honour of our late third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk (father of modern Bhutan) and the Dupthop Lhakhang, one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan. Then drive to the view point of Tashichho Dzong, seat of the national government and summer residence of Central Monastic Body, including Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan).
Stop while for lunch in the town. After lunch we will be visiting the Painting School where traditional art is still kept alive through instructions in the art of painting Thangkas (sacred Buddhist religious scrolls), visit to Folk Heritage museum, National Library House, textile museum and finally visit the Handicrafts Emporium and shopping for souvenirs in the shops of Thimphu. The vegetation is made up of rhododendron, magnolia bloom in early spring and through the subtropical forest. At Wangdue Phodrang, we will visit Wangdue Dzong, was founded by the Lama Zhamdrung in 1638.
Lunch at Wangdue. After lunch we will drive to Punakha. On the way we will visit Chhimi Lhakhang, which is located at a hilltop. We have to walk about 25minutes from the road point. This temple is also known as temple of fertility. Then we will continue our journey to Punakha. At Punakha we will visit Punakha Dzong; it was the winter capital of Bhutan until 1955 when the capital was permanently shifted to Thimphu. It still served as the winter resident for the monk body.

After our breakfast we will drive to Trongsa, through the Dochla Pass (3150m). It is very popular pass for viewing the eastern Himalayan mountain ranges on the clear days. The view is so great and spectacular. Then the road will descend to 1300m above sea level, Wangduephodrang valley. The vegetation is made up of rhododendron, magnolia bloom in early spring and through the subtropical and broadleaf forest. The drive will take about 6 – 7 hours.
Lunch will be served at the Chendebji Restaurant or Pack lunch.

Day 04. TRONGSA – BUMTHANG
After our breakfast, we will visit the magnificent Trongsa Dzong and then drive to Bumthang through the hairpin bends with the dense forest of rhododendron, conifers, alder and oak. The road then comes out into a wide open cultivated valley – which is the Chumey Valley, the first of Bumthnag’s four valleys. From here the road goes on straight until we see Jakar Dzong and then drops into bends before straightening out again in the main valley at Chamkhar. The drive will take about 2hours and 30minutes.
Lunch will be served at Hotel Bumthang. After lunch we will visit Jakar Dzong and the Chamkhar town.

Day 05. BUMTHANG HALT.
Today’s day begins with visit to Jambay Lhakhang, which is one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in 7th century, Kurjey Lhakhang, is named after the body print of Guru Rinpoche which is preserved in a cave inside the oldest of the three buildings, Tamshing Lhakhang – which was established by Terton Pema Lingpa in 1501 and is the most important Nyingma Goenba in the country.
Lunch in the Bumthang hotel. After lunch we will visit Mebertsho (Burning Lake) – This is a very scared lake for Bhutanese people. Terton Pema Lingpa discovered several of Guru Rinpoche’s hidden religious treasures from this lake. Evening at leisure.

Day 06. BUMTHANG – GANGATAY
After the breakfast, we will drive to Gangtay, Phobjikha. The drive will take about 4hours.
Lunch will be at Phobjikha hotel. After lunch we will walk around the Phobjikha valley, it is a glacial valley and is the winter home of the black necked cranes. This valley is a designated conservation area and borders Black Mountain National Park.

Trongsa Tsechu
The Tsechu / festival are a religious festival in honor of Guru Rinpoche, who brought the Buddhism to this country in 8th century. The scared mask dances trace their origin in Nyingmpa School, dating from the 12th or 13th century and later by the middle of the 15th century, Bhutan had developed its own sacred dance traditions associated with the Great Saint Pema Lingpa.
Trongsa Tsechu is one the oldest Tsechu in Bhutan. It is believed the Tsechus in Bhutan was spread from Trongsa. Most of the Champoen, the mask dance teacher, learned in Trongsa. On the last day of the Trongsa Tsechu, they unfurl the Thongdrel (liberation and blessings at the sight) every time, which is the highlight of the Trongsa Tsechu. It takes place always in winter.

Day 6. Punakha – Paro
AM: Visit Punakha Dzong and then drive to Paro. Lunch at Dochula cafeteria.
PM: Continue the journey to Paro. Evening stroll around the Paro town. Dinner and over night stay at Paro.
Day 7. Paro Taktshang Excursion
AM: Drive to Paro and hike to Taktshang. Lunch at Taktshang cafteria.
PM: Visit Kyichu Lhakhang and stroll around the Paro town. Dinner and over night stay in hotel Paro.
Day 8. International Departure
AM: Drive to Paro Airport to catch the flight to your next destination.
