Punakha Dromche

January 17, 2009 · Filed Under Tour Packages · Comment

Punakha Dromche and Punakha Tsechu takes place in early spring every year. Dromche is a festival similar to Tsechue, which generally includes the mask dances and is dedicated to Yeshi Gompo (Mahakala) and Palden Lhamo (Mahakali)- the two main protective deities of Bhutan. The Punakha Tsechu/festival continues after the Punakha dromche. The punakha Tsechu is unique compare to other Tsechus in Bhutan because it re-enacts the scene where Zhabdrung tricked the Tibetan invaders in 17th Century.
