Getting to Bhutan
Any foreign visitor to Bhutan must be a guest of the government, a diplomatic for foreign agencies, or a tourist. All tourists must travel on a pre-planned and prepaid tour package through the registered tour company. Independent travel is not permitted. The ways to enter Bhutan are by flight or road. Entering by flight is the most preferred and recommended way. Druk Air (KB) Royal Bhutan Airline, the only airline flying in and out from Bhutan has daily flights from Bangkok (BKK) via Dhaka (DAC) or Indian states, Kolkata (CCU) and Gaya (GAY). Druk Air also has flights from Delhi (DEL) via Kathmandu (KTM) thrice a week. To enter by road, guests must travel from India. The gateways points are Phuentsholing in the south west and Samdrup Jongkhar in south east of the country. The nearest domestic airports to these points are Bagdrora (IXB) and Gauwahati (GAU), three hour plus drive from Bhutan.
